Handling Precautions

Compared to epoxy encapsulation, which is hard and brittle, silicone is softer and more flexible. Although its characteristics significantly reduce thermal stress, it is more prone to damage from external mechanical forces. As a result, special handling precautions must be observed when assembling products using silicone-encapsulated LEDs. Failure to comply could lead to damage and premature failure of the LED.

• Handle the component along the side surface using forceps or appropriate tools; do not directly touch or handle the silicone lens surface as it may damage the internal circuitry.
• Not suitable for operation in acidic environments (pH < 7).
• LED operating environment and sulfur element composition cannot exceed 25 PPM in the LED mating usage material.
• When external glue is required for LED applications, ensure that the glue matches the LED packaging glue. Most LED packaging glue is silica gel, which has high oxygen and moisture permeability. To prevent external material contamination inside the LEDs, the content of bromine elements should be less than 225 PPM, chlorine elements should be less than 225 PPM, and the combined content of bromine and chlorine should not exceed 375 PPM in the external glue.
• The encapsulated material of the LEDs is silicone, making the top surface of the package soft. Excessive pressure on the top surface can affect the reliability of the LEDs. Precautions should be taken to avoid strong pressure on the encapsulated part, and proper pressure should be applied when using the picking-up nozzle.
• Static electricity or surge voltage can damage LEDs. Damaged LEDs may show unusual characteristics such as lower forward voltage or failure to light up even at low current. All devices, equipment, and machinery must be properly grounded. It is recommended to use wristbands, anti-electrostatic gloves, and anti-electrostatic containers when handling LEDs.

Storage

• Before opening the package, the LEDs should be stored at 30°C or less and 60% RH or less. They should be used within one year.
• After opening the package, the product should be stored at 30°C or less with humidity less than 10% RH and soldered within 24 hours. It is recommended that the product be operated under workshop conditions of 30°C or less and humidity less than 60% RH. Unused LEDs should be stored in moisture-proof packaging, such as sealed containers with moisture absorbent material (e.g., silica gel). It is also recommended to return unused LEDs to the original moisture-proof bag and reseal it.
